Good weekend

May 25, 2009

You know, once I settled in my head to give up on thinking about this guy, it’s like a weight’s been lifted off my shoulders and I feel fabulous again. Surely, one can’t go from liking someone to not liking them overnight. I still like him. But the point is, I no longer want anything more than friendship. And once that became clear in my mind, and once I really got comfortable with that, that’s when suddenly I no longer felt down on myself. It’s like, as time went on, my self-confidence was eroded, but for really no good reason at all. And it happened so slowly that I didn’t even realize. Until I let it go. And I finally feel good about myself again.

May has been way busier than I had expected it to be. Classwork and the end of the quarter. Grant writing. But it’s been quite a successful one so far. This long weekend started off with wine tasting at the end of work on Friday. We had a good shiraz and crusty bread. That night, I basically spent getting homework done and practicing my qin songs. Saturday morning, I got all my homework finished. Got some grant things done. Then went with a friend to go shopping. She was shopping for a new cell phone plan. I got a new picture frame for my Chihouly poster. It looks awesome in my living room. Plus, I got EA Sports Active, which totally kicks butt. It can incorporate the Wii Fit balance board, and adds a resistance band and a leg strap that holds the nunchuck (thus detecting leg movement as well). And it’s fast paced, so gets your heart pumping. The virtual trainer sets the workout plan for you, so it makes sure that you are varying your muscle groups trained in a session and over time. I can certainly feel it considering how sore I am today!

Sunday, I went to my qin class. It was much better than last week. Thankfully she took my concerns from the previous week constructively and improved the class. Looks like I’m going to preorder a qin table from China, and also she is letting me upgrade my qin to a nicer one. I have my eye on a really nice one. Old Tong wood. New tuning mechanism. Very sleek. After class, I went home to shower. Then we went out to dinner at a French bistro, then dancing at a dub reggae event. We danced from 10:30pm-1:30am, pretty much nonstop. I suppose that also has something to do with my soreness today. Hehe…

So today, obviously I slept in. Woke up feeling sore, plus probably some effects of second hand marijuana from the club. It annoys me how people can assume that others will appreciate the second hand marijuana. Personally I can do without. So today was a slow paced day. Spent a lot of it in the kitchen cooking one thing or another. I made blueberry honey lemonade. Lime jello. Cooked up 4 servings of spicy turkey and sausage meatballs in coron and tomato sauce. Was delicious. Now I have lots left for the week.

I should record the recipe for those meatballs. Too lazy right now to work on HTML. Here’s the details. 8oz lean ground turkey breast, 2 Andouille sausages, 1 egg, 1 cup finely diced onion, 2 cloves garlic finely diced, 1 tbsp Worchestershire sauce, 1 tsp chili flakes, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp oregano, salt and pepper. Sauce was 3 cups chicken stock, 1/4 cup tomato paste, 1 tsp oregano, 2 tbsp Frank’s Red Hot sauce, 1 tsp cumin, leftover oil from frying the meatballs, 2 cups frozen corn nibs, 1 tsp honey, salt and pepper. Makes about 24 small meatballs. Today I spooned it warm over baby romaine lettuce leaves. Delish.
